Vacancy: Gugulethu - Environmental Officer

The Company would like to recruit an Environmental Officer (Compliance) to be based at Gugulethu Colliery 13 km east of Hendrina in Mpumalanga.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Management or related fields

  • Must be computer literate

  • Microsoft Office is essential

  • Must have 3 to 4 years of experience

  • Working knowledge and understanding of all environmental-related legislation

  • Must be able to organize and lead

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication abilities

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Other Skills and Competencies

  • Must be able to adapt his / her plans to suit any changes.

  • Conveys information to individuals and ensures that they understand.

  • Innovating ways to deal with environmental-related work problems.

  • Organizing and guiding the environmental requirements as per licenses and operational requirements.

  • Must make decisions on how to cope with changing environments within the workplace.

  • Take initiative in solving environmental problems.

  • Must be professional in dealing with all stakeholders.

  • Be proactive and take prompt action.

  • Must be aware of all safety-related issues.

  • Must be able to supervise the activities of the sub-ordinates reporting to him/her.

  • Setting high standards of performance for self and others. Assuming responsibility and

  • accountability for completing assignments or tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage enviro-legal processes required for existing projects and authorisation.

  • Ensure compliance with all enviro-legal licenses for the operations.

  • Develop/implement long-term environmental plans for the mine.

  • Develop and implement the Environmental Management Programme to address and mitigate environmental responsibility through mine closure.

  • Ensuring environmental targets are maintained.

  • A proactive approach to all environmental-related issues.

  • Mentoring and coaching interns and graduates in training.
