Alan Gillespie is Managing Director of Mercuria Energy Trading South Africa, a position he has held since 2009. He has over 20 years’ experience in commodity trading and managing investments in mining assets. He has extensive international experience. While based in London he worked for the likes of Duke Energy Merchants, Williams Energy and Tradition Financial Services. Before joining Mercuria, he spent several years at Cargill South Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.

Mehboob Kamaloodien is a hands-on businessman. He started his career in selling hardware goods in a humble shop in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. He grew the business to be the most revenue earning branch of Campwell Group in less than 10 years. After the group was sold to a JSE listed company he grew his capital with the investments in real estate and resources. He is actively involved in coal, limestone and stone quarry operations and projects in Mpumalanga and North West provinces.

Rudzani Mudogwa has diverse experience in the environmental management field. In 2006 he joined the Department of Mineral Resources where he worked until 2011. He was exposed to wide range of areas in environmental management including: Evaluating the Environmental Scoping Reports, Environmental Impact Assessment, Closure Reports, Environmental Management Plans and Programs for Prospecting, Mining Permits and Mining Rights Applications. In 2011, he started his own business and in 2012 he joined Canyon Coal as a partner. He holds a Bachelor of Environmental Sciences from the University of Venda.


Vuslat Bayoglu is the founder and executive chairperson of Canyon Coal, a mid-tier coal mining company. He is the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Menar, a South African mining company with an actively managed and growing portfolio of diversified minerals, which has controlling stakes in Canyon Coal, Zululand Anthracite Colliery, Kangra and East Manganese. He holds an honours degree in mechanical engineering and over 20 years of experience in the mining industry. He is a hands-on investor with a keen interest in bettering the South African economy.
