“Coming from a small town where most of the youth did not further their studies, it was imperative for me not to be classified as one of the youths, who were academically smart, but could not study further. I wanted to be the first graduate in my family and be an example to the community of what is possible to be educated and the bursary I received from Canyon Coal was crucial in enabling me to achieve this. The bursary covered tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks and provided a monthly stipend. I have been fortunate enough to be employed by another company. I’m currently a Production Geologist with my next goal of becoming a Mineral Resource Manager in the next couple of years, with my long-term aspiration of becoming a CEO or CFO after completing my MBA. I want to thank Canyon Coal for offering me the chance to realise my dreams. I hope that future bursary awardees take full grasp of this one in a lifetime opportunity and get educated.”
