Vacancy: Blaster
The company would like to recruit a Blaster to be based at Khanye Colliery in Bronkhorstspruit.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Valid open cast blasting certificate
Grade 12
Driver’s license code 10
OTHER SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Be able to acquire medical certificate of fitness
Knowledge of opencast mining
Good communication skills
Computer literacy (Excel and Word)
Reading and writing in English
EXPERIENCE
2-3 Years relevant experience in mining environment
Experience with AECI IntelliShot and BME AXXIS experience will be advantageous
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that there is an effective drilling programme and holes have been marked off
Ensure that there is an effective blasting programme and that explosives have been ordered
Ensure that explosives are stored in compliance with the terms laid down by the relevant act and transported in terms of the act
Do basic surveying and planning for future production requirements
Communicate with personnel effectively in order that instructions are carried out properly
Carry out risk assessments
Do daily site inspections
Carry out PTO’s
Check pre-start checklists
Have safety talks with the team
Report near misses and other incidents
Ensure that all protective devices are operative
Ensure that good housekeeping is practiced in the section
Ensure that hydrocarbon spills are cleaned up
Ensure that environmental integrity is maintained
Ensure the safety of the equipment and personnel at all times, proper signages are displayed
Communicate with all people involved in the execution of this function
Take any lawful and reasonable instructions from the supervisor / foreman / mine manager
Connecting up of blasting rounds or circuits and line testing
Loading and offloading explosives into the bench temporary storage boxes
Creating barricading to prevent any unwanted entry as per blasters specification and procedural requirements
Removing all breakable mine property from the vicinity of the blasting site (block clean up)
Preparation of primers and suspension of the pre-split
Placing blasting guards and conducting blast radius clearance and ensuring it is safe to resume with the initiation of the blast
Ensure blast guards are appointed in terms of the relevant regulations
Access control of the explosive’s storage boxes, ensuring they are locked at all times
Blast bench access control and preventing inadvertent entry, ensuring that entry is only granted when all legal requirements are met
Dealing with misfires and old explosives in accordance with the Explosives Act
Conducting post blast inspections
