Vacancy: Community Liaison Officer

The Company would like to recruit a Community Liaison Officer to be based at Gugulethu Colliery within Msukaligwa Municipality.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • National Diploma/degree in any of the following:  Social Science, Human Behaviour, Development Studies or Social Dynamics.

  • Valid driver’s licence

OTHER SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Report writing skills

  • Fluent in English and African language

  • Ability to motivate        

  • Communication Skills:  Ability to liaise with people on all levels

  • Sound written and verbal communication

  • Ability to mediate and resolve conflicts

  • Working to Standards

  • Initiative

  • Understanding of Socio-economic dynamics and complexities

KNOWLEDGE

  •  Canyon Coal Social and Labour Plan

  • Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act 28 of 2002

  • Working knowledge of Canyon’s relevant procedures and working practices

  • Communication Skills:  Ability to liaise with people on all levels

  • Sound written and verbal communication

  • Knowledge of who comprises the key stakeholders in the community

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position in the mining industry.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To Liaise with Traditional Councils, community structures and committees

  • Manage compliance to all Mining Charter and SLP issues at the operation.

  • Ensure that SLP commitments are implemented

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate DMRE interaction i.e. site inspections, etc.

  • Ensure communication is cascaded effectively to all the relevant stakeholders

  • Project management and oversight of the LED projects

  • Build and maintain excellent and highly efficient working relations with government departments, local municipalities, other agencies and key community leaders and groups of influence.

  • Mediate and resolve conflict within the different stakeholders.

  • Be a point of contact for enquiries from all stakeholders

  • Arranging meetings with the relevant stakeholders to address issues and concerns.

  • Keep the community informed of programmes, projects and all relevant issues.

  • Assist in the recruitment process to ensure local community recruitment process is followed.

  • Manage social complexities at community and operational levels.

  • Co-ordinate Social Impact Assessments for the mine

  • To comply with all Health & Safety at work requirements as laid down by the Company

  • To prepare reports to Community structures, Management and other stakeholders
