Mpho Mahano, Khanye diesel mechanic learner

Before embarking on his learnership at Khanye, Mpho Mahano spent time working with a local auto mechanic from his community to gain experience. Mpho, now a diesel mechanic learner at Khanye, was eager to hone his skills despite facing financial difficulties that temporarily put his studies at Denver Technical College in Tshwane on hold. Born and bred in Zithobeni township in Bronkhorstspruit, just 15km away from Khanye, Mpho hopes to make it as a highly skilled artisan in the future. “I want to be ranked as one of the best diesel mechanics wherever I work,” asserts Mpho.

He believes the learnership has played a vital role in his life and channelled him towards a positive direction. While he looks forward to completing his studies, the knowledge already gained through the Diesel Trade Theory course provided Mpho with critical knowledge. “At school, I was mostly focused on theoretical knowledge, but since being exposed to the mining industry, I can put my theoretical knowledge to use,” he says. Mpho is thankful for the opportunity and appreciates the guidance and mentorship provided by his engineering team. Looking ahead, he is determined to excel in his studies. “I’ll make sure that I pass with excellence and become a high-profile diesel mechanic,” he concludes.
