Lebogang Mothoa, Khanye acting supervisor

Lebogang Mothoa, 27, is gaining valuable leadership experience as the acting supervisor at Khanye while pursuing her Government Certificate of Competency (GCC). Lebogang was appointed in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and is also continuing her electrical engineering internship at the mine, which began in 2022.

Lebogang – who is from Ekangala, Bronkhorstspruit – emphasises the value of her experience in the acting role. “The experience has been both rewarding and challenging. It has enhanced my skills,” she says. Her responsibilities include working in the CMS workshop, maintaining lighting plants, pit pumps, generators, and working on projects within the peripheral department. With a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Lebogang is broadening her skill set with mechanical engineering-related subjects to meet the requirements for the GCC. Upon completing her GCC, she will become a fully qualified engineer.

Looking to the future, she aims to grow in her career and aspires to become a mentor, working with industry forums to assist upcoming engineers. Throughout her journey she has greatly benefited from the guidance and support of her mentor and engineering manager Tshepo Mokwele and supervisor, Brian Gwaze as they have helped her to grow professionally. Lebogang highlights the transformative power of having a clear vision, writing it down, and focusing on personal development. “Even if it’s not accomplished today, but if your vision is written, one day it will be accomplished,” she remarks.
