Mulalo’s personality drives her towards project management
With a career that kicked off as a geologist at a diamond mine in the Northern Cape, Mulalo Ndwammbi’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. A seasoned professional with a diverse background in mining and project management, Mulalo joined Canyon Coal as a project manager in April 2024. “I started my career as a mining geologist and later transitioned into roles such as mining manager and production manager. My experience in various roles made me realise my passion for working with people and solving problems,” she explains.
In her current role as a project manager, Mulalo emphasises the importance of building and leading teams. “In the projects space, you are constantly solving and planning, interacting with people, and building relationships, which I find incredibly fulfilling,” she adds. Mulalo stresses the significance of effective communication and adaptability, especially when dealing with challenges. “Assumption is a killer of most things,” she notes. She also underlines the need to be agile and responsive to change. “Things don’t always go according to plan, and it’s crucial to be quick on your feet when modification of a plan is required,” she says.
Mulalo holds an Honours degree in Geology from the University of Pretoria, a certificate in Project Management from the University of Cape Town, and an Advanced Diploma in General Management from GIBS Business School, among other qualifications.
