Collaborations lead to meaningful impact in communities
Canyon Coal’s collaborations with key stakeholders yielded great impact in reaching some of the company’s host communities. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) hosted the International Day of Persons with Disabilities event at the Sizanani Children’s Home in Bronkhorstspruit, located near Khanye Colliery. Gugulethu and Khanye contractors participated in the event and donated various items to the value of R228 000. The then DMRE Deputy Minister Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabalala attended the event and expressed her gratitude to all the sponsors for their generous contributions to the children’s home.
Canyon Coal was the main sponsor of the Energy and Mining Career Expo, hosted by DMRE at the Ekangala Engineering School of Specialisation. The event attracted 350 learners from various schools, who received pamphlets filled with information about learnerships, internships, bursaries, publications, and stationery from Canyon Coal’s exhibition stand. To celebrate Women’s Month, Gugulethu and Khanye collaborated with various stakeholders to host successful events and donate sanitary towels and stationery.
The stakeholders involved included mine contractors, the local clinic, the South African Police Service, and the health department, among others. These events exemplify the power of collaboration in achieving the common good. “Collaboration is key to maximising positive impacts at the community level,” says Canyon Coal’s Social Licensing Manager, Xolile Mankayi. Canyon Coal remains committed to working with various stakeholders to make a meaningful contribution to its host communities, investing in their well-being, and growing together.
